How Many Reindeer Does Santa Have?

Christmas is around the corner, and children everywhere are getting their Christmas lists together. Even now, Santa is at the North Pole preparing the Christmas gifts and presents kids wished for throughout the year. Every year, Santa visits neighborhoods across the world with his sleigh full of Christmas gifts, pulled by his team of magical reindeer.

But how many reindeer does Dear Santa have?

Santa Claus has a team of 9 reindeer. His original team included Dasher, Dancer, Prancer, Vixen, Comet, Cupid, Donner, and Blitzen. Rudolph, the red nose reindeer, was born much later and joined the team because of his special power — his glowing red nose that leads Santa and the other reindeer through the dark skies.

The Personalities of Santa’s Reindeer

  1. Dasher: The Speedy

Dasher is Santa’s fastest reindeer. One interesting thing about Dasher is that he learned how to walk a few moments after he was born. He loves participating in races when he is free from his Christmas duties.

Dasher’s name means “purse maker” he loves to sew. He is a true gentleman as he helps Mrs. Claus sew Santa’s new suits every year. However, he also loves bow ties and hats, and sometimes asks Mrs. Claus whether they can spare some time to sew a cap or tie.

  1. Dancer: The Move Maker

Dancer is the most elegant reindeer among the herd. Whenever there is news of a party happening somewhere, she’s likely to be the first one there. Dancer’s friendliness also makes her an excellent entertainer. She loves to make people smile and will always tell you interesting and amusing stories. Although they may not be real, at least, they’ll make you laugh. Thanks to her quick feet and perfectly coordinated moves, she earned a place in the first row of Santa’s herd next to Dasher.

  1. Prancer: The Beautiful

Although Prancer is a strong, smart, and loving friend to the other members of the herd, he also loves to groom himself and look at the mirror. When the sleigh is filled with gifts, people may find him brushing his fur and cleaning his hooves. “You have to look at your best always because you never know who you’ll bump into,” he says.

Prancer is a regular visitor to the elves’ workshop and can often be found doing tricks to entertain others.

  1. Vixen: The Most Charming Reindeer

Among Santa’s reindeer, Vixen is the smartest and the best at magic. She is known for her beauty, calm nature, and for performing magic tricks for her fellow reindeer and the elves.

Vixen is always there to lend a shoulder to cry on for a friend in need, so when Santa or the other reindeer need advice, they often go to Vixen. She also happens to be the oldest reindeer on Santa’s team.

  1. Comet: The Wonderful

When Comet was born, there was a bright comet shooting across the sky. Because of that, this reindeer portrays some manners that people can’t usually see. He is not only handsome and easy-going, but he also loves to smile and play ball with young reindeer.

Santa has a special place in his heart for Comet. Before Christmas, he helps him to sort out his list of naughty and nice children. He’s a wonderful helper to Santa. When you talk to him, it’s impossible to get bored. He’s always smiling, glowing, and joyful. Sometimes he loves to gossip. Let’s not hate her for that since he talks to everybody.

  1. Cupid: The Loving One

Cupid likes to spread love. She’s a sweet reindeer who loves to make sure everyone feels loved and appreciated. Often, she mysteriously places mistletoe on people’s doors to remind them to share hugs and kisses during Christmas.

If you’re a friend to Cupid, you’ll always know which present was from her. She loves leaving heart-shaped boxes filled with chocolate. Her favorite shapes are hearts, of course!

  1. Donner: The Singing Reindeer

Donner means thunder in German, and this reindeer has a lovely deep, thunderous voice. Donner’s favorite song is “Jingle Bells,” and everyone at the North Pole loves to hear him sing it.

One thing that most people don’t know about Donner is that he can play almost any instrument, but he loves the drums most. When Donner isn’t using his strength to pull Santa’s sleigh, or playing music, he likes to spend his time playing with his son Rudolph.

  1. Blitzen: The Lightning-Fast Reindeer

Blitzen is as fast as lightning (but not quite as fast as Dasher). He is known for his playful personality, but Blitzen is one of the hardest working reindeer on Santa’s team. When Santa shouts, “Faster!” Blitzen if the one who inspires the other reindeer to go even faster.

  1. Rudolph: Santa’s Guide

Rudolph is the newest member of the team. Rudolph used to be ashamed of his red nose, but Santa taught him to turn his glowing nose into a strength by using it to light the way through the sky when the snow becomes thick and heavy. Due to his nose’s red glow, he leads the other reindeer through the snowiest nights. When playing hide and seek, his nose helps him to find his friends from their hiding places.

These are the nine beautiful reindeer that lead Santa across the world while dropping Christmas gifts. The next time someone receives a gift from Santa, they’ll know who helped make the delivery!
